A giant heart

Her heart starts to soften towards me

versión en español a continuación

Betty and I were friends, I think. Betty was my favorite person to be around. We both liked and owned horses. I liked her. She didn't like me, or at least not the way I wanted her to like me.

Then on Valentine's day, I was shocked to return to my dorm room at Shorter College and find a giant poster board filled with candy in the shape of a heart.

It was more candy than I had ever seen in one place that wasn't the store. Betty had made that for me and put it in my room.

No verbal confirmation as of yet, but things were beginning to take shape. Betty had given me a huge Valentine's gift of a heart full of sweetness.

I had to know about Betty's relationship with the Lord. She told me the story of how she got saved.

There had been a city-wide evangelistic campaign in Rome, Georgia. Evangelist Bob Harrington preached. I had been at the meeting hearing him preach. I barely knew Betty at the time.

One evening, some girls in the dorm with Betty began talking about the meeting. They had seen people getting saved. It was an exciting time.

Betty entered the room and heard the discussion. As they talked so excitedly, she began to cry.

One of the other girls jumped up and said I know what she needs. She ran to her room and returned with her Bible. She proceeded to lead Betty to Christ.

That night Betty fully understood for the first time the gospel message. She trusted Christ, and that would change her life forever.

She had been brought up in church all her life. However, she didn't ever remember hearing anyone "clearly" present the gospel of Jesus Christ. The first time she heard a clear presentation of the gospel, she placed her heart, her trust, and her life in the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ.

She had given her heart to Jesus. And now, on Valentine's day 1973, she gave me a large candy heart of sweetness. A sweetness that continues and has continued now for almost 50 years.

Decisions to make

Decide now only to date born-again people. God has commanded us not to be "unequally yoked with unbelievers." Remember that as you are dating.

Decide to date someone committed to living pure, sexually, and morally. Claiming to be saved isn't the question. How many claim to be saved, but there is no proof in the way they live, think, and act?

Decide to share your faith with others. Be ready at a minute's notice to tell people how they can know they are saved, born again. Betty's friends were used by God to change her life, her destiny and everything about her by sharing Jesus with her.

When you witness, be clear. Do not try to sound pious or spiritual. Just ask questions that lead to only Bible answers. Give Bible answers. So much religious talk is what keeps so many from being saved. They need to hear the plain and simple gospel of Jesus Christ.

Betty y yo éramos amigos, creo. Betty era mi persona favorita con quien estar cerca. A ambos nos gustaban y teníamos caballos. Me gustaba.

Habían visto a personas siendo salvas.

Mientras hablaban tan emocionadas, ella comenzó a llorar.

Ella procedió a llevar a Betty a Cristo.

Decisiones a tomar

No intentes sonar piadoso o espiritual.
