A True Friend Sticks

a true friend is someone who walks in when everyone else walks out

Adrian Rogers preached a sermon called: “The Care and Cultivation of a Friendship,” with Proverbs 17:17 as his text. We all know what it is like to lose someone we thought was a true friend. We should all work at being real friends. Check this out!

But not only does a true friend sharpen; a true friend sticks. Now, what do I mean by that? Well, put this verse down—Proverbs 18, verse 24: “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24)

Or if you want to put it this way: a true friend stays. A true friend not only sharpens you, but a true friend is steadfast. They stick to you closer than a brother. Again, Proverbs 17, verse 17: “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” If you want to see who your real friends are, just make a mistake and see whether or not they leave you.

Life is like a ship, and some people get on board and get off board very easily. Some will stay on board as long as everything is sailing smoothly. They’ll get on board and sail with you. But let the rough weather come, and they will abandon the ship. But a true friend is the one who will stay with you and stick with you.

As I said, somebody says that a true friend is someone who walks in when everyone else walks out.

And again, isn’t that like the Lord Jesus? The Bible says that though we deny Him, He abides faithful.” (2 Timothy 2:13) And the reason that I am kept saved, very frankly, is this: that Jesus will never walk out on me. He “is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

And that is a prophecy, I believe, in the Bible of the Lord Jesus Christ. Put this verse down—Proverbs chapter 27 and verse 10: “Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.” (Proverbs 27:10)

Gratitude, a sentiment often tucked away in the recesses of our hearts, possesses the transformative power to enrich not only our lives but also the lives of those around us.

In January of 1987 Betty, the kids, and I arrived in Querétaro, Mexico to study Spanish. I literally didn’t know ten words. I am forever indebted to Georgia, Hermana Luisa, Webb for the language institute she ran for many years. She was strict. She pushed hard. Betty cried on more than one occasion. Without the challenge I know that I never would have learned the language. The language school gave me structure, discipline, help learning what to do next. Read the rest of the letter then go watch this video the BBF did of Miss Webb. When you get this letter, Lord willing, Betty and I will be in Mexico and we will be visiting this wonderful godly lady. I thought of this lady often over the years. I remembered how hard she had been on me. I remembered being tortured it seemed but I survived Hermana Luisa and she made me a thriving missionary. Thank you Hermana Luisa for helping a red neck Tennessee hillbilly learn enough Spanish to do some ministry. God bless you. So know that language school might be very beneficial for you. Efficient Resource Utilization: Organized lesson plans and materials ensure learners make the most of their study time, covering essential language elements in a coherent manner. Clear Learning Objectives: Well-organized courses outline clear learning objectives, helping learners understand what to expect and what is expected of them. Resource Accessibility: Organized language schools provide learners with easy access to a variety of resources, including textbooks, multimedia materials, and language software.
