Don't just live like everyone else. God has more than that for you.

versión en español a continuación

God has always been so good to Betty and me. He was good to me when He saved me. He was good to me when He gave me such a wonderful wife.

As a young man, I was passionate about anything in the Bible. I still am. This passion often made me an easy mark for those that wanted to take advantage of me financially or otherwise. God has met our needs time after time and no matter the circumstance.

If a bum came by the church asking for food, I might show up with him in the car at the house. I would tell the guy to wait in the car for a minute. Then I would tell Betty.

Sorry baby, but I have a guy that needs a meal and a place to stay tonight. I told her we had to help people cause we never knew if we were entertaining "angels unaware!"

I might show up with a church member who had gotten drunk. I would pick them up and bring them home to sleep it off and get a little preaching from the Word of God. Betty learned to be ready for anything.

It would help if you remembered that Betty grew up on the other side of the tracks from me. She was the pretty little rich girl, and I was the poor redneck.

Back in the old days, a person would walk, stick up a thumb, and hope for a ride. One day I was driving down the road and saw a hobo walking down the highway. He was hitchhiking.

I always picked them up and witnessed to them. The hitchhikers had to listen because I was giving them a ride. I loved that.

I remember asking one guy as we drove along where he would go if he were to die right then. He looked at me, kind of scared, and said what? I had to calm him down and tell him I wanted to know what would happen to him if he died.

That didn't help much, so I said where would you go if you died right now? He asked how am I going to die? I said I don't know but say we had a car wreck, and you died.

He said I suppose I would fly through the windshield and land over there. Then they might take me to the hospital and then the morgue. I realized quickly that I wasn't getting anywhere with my form of witnessing.

I needed a different tactic. I saw another hitchhiker on a different day and was happy to pick him up. I asked him about his relationship with God. Did he know he was a sinner?

He raised his voice and said stop the car right now. I want out! I asked why? He said I have had it with your type. I know you. You are going to preach to me. You will put me out on the road if I do not accept your message.

Just let me out now! I said wait. I am not like anybody else you know. I will not do you that way. He said well, I am not interested in your message.

He said you talk about that junk, but I need food, a place to stay, and a job. I need someone to care. He reminded me that I didn't care any more than the others who had tried to preach to him.

I said that is not true. I do care about you. If you want, I will take you home with me. You can live in our basement. I will give you a job. You will simply have to participate with my family in our devotional time and attend church when we do.

He couldn't believe it. He accepted. He went to our house and stayed with us for six weeks.

Betty washed his clothes. They were so nasty that she picked them up with a stick to put them in the washing machine. She had to wash them several times to get them halfway clean.

I put him to work at the church doing janitorial work. We only had one bathroom in our house, and so he had to come upstairs to the bathroom. He showered forever to get clean when he first got to our home.

He seemed happy. He even put up with going to church with us. He sat through family devotions every night. We read the Bible together and prayed.

Then he would play board games or some card games with the kids and me. He was like a part of the family.

He showed no interest in getting saved. Everyone at the church loved on him. Our church was made up of relatively poor people like me. They had gotten saved and were willing to love anyone.

We were about to have a revival meeting. It would go on for about six days. That would mean my buddy would be in church daily for a week.

He was not interested in that. The morning everything was to start; he was upstairs with all his stuff in his backpack. He had his walking stick, and he was gone.

He never got saved. I always wondered if he could be an "angel unaware." A year later, he passed through town again, stopped in, and stayed with us for a few more days.

When I tell you that the country boy had revolutionized the city girl's life, I mean I really did. Betty was a trooper. It didn't matter what crazy stunt I was going to pull. She would be with me.

What a wonderful wife God gave me. I have no idea whether he was ever really an "angel unaware" or not, but my wife was willing to let him live in our house with our kids. She was ready to wash his clothes, cook his food, and be friendly and kind to him.

I do not know how God always met our needs no matter what we did. The number of times I would bring someone home was crazy, yet my family just learned that was what we did. We tried to help "hurting people."

God can make anyone a servant to the poorest, and Betty is living proof of how she handled so much I put on her.

Another lesson to learn is that to communicate the gospel, you need to see it as they will see it. You need to hear it as they will hear it.

I scared that poor guy to death. He must have thought when I asked the question if he knew where he would go when he died that his life was about to be over.

Hey, could I challenge you to do something crazy for the name of Jesus? Risk your life! Make a difference. Don't just live like everyone else. God has more than that for you. There is more to life than just living, getting married, having kids, and getting some toys to play with and then dying. God made you for more.

Joy comes into our lives 48

Me miró algo asustado y dijo ¿qué?

Me preguntó ¿cómo voy a morir?

Me vas a predicar.

Yo dije espera. No soy como nadie más que conozcas. No te haré de esa manera. Dijo bien, no me interesa tu mensaje.

Él no podía creerlo.

Habían aceptado a Cristo y estaban dispuestos a amar a cualquiera.

Nunca aceptó a Cristo.

No importaba qué truco loco iba a hacer. Ella estaría conmigo.

Qué maravillosa esposa me dio Dios.

In January of 1987 Betty, the kids, and I arrived in Querétaro, Mexico to study Spanish. I literally didn’t know ten words. I am forever indebted to Georgia, Hermana Luisa, Webb for the language institute she ran for many years. She was strict. She pushed hard. Betty cried on more than one occasion. Without the challenge I know that I never would have learned the language. The language school gave me structure, discipline, help learning what to do next. Read the rest of the letter then go watch this video the BBF did of Miss Webb. When you get this letter, Lord willing, Betty and I will be in Mexico and we will be visiting this wonderful godly lady. I thought of this lady often over the years. I remembered how hard she had been on me. I remembered being tortured it seemed but I survived Hermana Luisa and she made me a thriving missionary. Thank you Hermana Luisa for helping a red neck Tennessee hillbilly learn enough Spanish to do some ministry. God bless you. So know that language school might be very beneficial for you. Efficient Resource Utilization: Organized lesson plans and materials ensure learners make the most of their study time, covering essential language elements in a coherent manner. Clear Learning Objectives: Well-organized courses outline clear learning objectives, helping learners understand what to expect and what is expected of them. Resource Accessibility: Organized language schools provide learners with easy access to a variety of resources, including textbooks, multimedia materials, and language software.
