Give and It Shall Be Given
God gives through us what He will not give to us.

My youth was full of prophecy conferences. I heard all the time that Jesus was coming soon. That is a message I do not seem to hear so much today.
Another thing that preachers always emphasized was being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and His direction. Preachers would say that the Lord prompted them to witness, preach, give, pray, or do whatever.
I was young. I grew up doing my best to listen to the Lord. I believed that He spoke to me. I also thought I could ask Him something in prayer and just expect Him to do it. Whatever these men of God talked about significantly impacted my life.
The charismatics and Pentecostals had a massive impact all across Christianity. Pastors and preachers spoke in tongues, continually discussing the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It impacted Baptist churches more than most of you would believe.
A world focused on the work of the Holy Spirit was the world I grew up in. So I lived fully believing there was this super intimate relationship with God through the Holy Spirit. I still do, by the way.
Betty and I were part of a large church with major financial troubles. They eventually bankrupted totally. At the same time, I was working, giving, and praying for God to provide me with all I needed to start our first church.
We were about 22 years of age. I was confident that I could feel the leadership of the Holy Spirit. One Sunday morning, I had saved, working as hard as possible, $100 to purchase the new church's song books. Remember that I was making very little money. I would have to front all the rent, the promotional material, and everything for the new church out of my pocket.
The pastor of the church that we were members of stood up and said that the electricity would be turned off on the church and school if they didn't get money to pay the bills the next day.
He asked for all those that would give $1,000 to help. Many did. It still wasn't enough. Then they asked who would provide $500, then $250. I was thrilled. I was watching God's people meet the need.
Then the pastor said some of you couldn't do something so big, but I know God wants you to give $100. That was all the money Betty and I had saved to start the new church.
I couldn't believe it. My heart started beating fast. I bowed my head. I said Lord; I know you would never want me to sacrifice the church you have called me to start to help this big church pay their electric bill.
The pastor was still talking. I put my face in my hands, and my fingers couldn't hold back the tears flying out of my eyes. I was under conviction big time from the Lord to give all I had.
I finally relented. I raised my hand and promised to give all that we had. I felt good about obeying the Lord. I was at a complete loss as to what He would do now that I had given away all we had.
I got home that afternoon. I saw my best friend who had just moved to the area. He said, "I do not know what was going on this morning, but the Holy Spirit pressured me to give you $175."
I couldn't believe it. I praised the Lord and shared the testimony of what God was doing. God told me to trust Him. He wanted me to give so He could prove to me that He would meet all my needs and the needs of the new church.
We had proved God as youth directors in that first church. God had established that if we gave, He would give to us. He just did it again.
Without a doubt, I needed a mentor, but I had something even more special. I believed with all my heart that God had every intention of meeting my needs and working miracles in my life. I will share more with you in the coming days.
Betty and I were kids. We didn't know what we were doing, but we knew that we loved God and just wanted to be used by Him in any way He might choose.
God was using us. It wasn't us. God will use any of us who will believe Him and watch Him work.
I think we can learn a couple of lessons from this testimony.
God loves you and wants to do more with you than you could imagine.
God wants to show Himself strong on your behalf if you love Him with all your heart.
You should keep a very tender heart and listen for His direction. He may tell you to stop and witness to someone. He may have you give. But He never asks anything without adding His blessings.
God's people have to be givers. They know they do not have money and things but are a channel of what He has. God gives through us what He will not give to us.
Don't feel foolish believing God. New Christians are usually really quick to believe God. It doesn't take older Christians long to convince the new Christians to give up on God, the Word, His promises, His hearing, and answering prayer. Don't give up on God.
Be available for God to direct you. He will never lead you in any manner that is not consistent with Scripture. Giving goes against human nature. We are keepers, not givers.
Even if we give money, we do it to gain favors or control, but if we are spirit-filled, we give with no expectations of anything in return.
Be sensitive when you read the Scripture when you stroll around His world. Expect God to direct your path.

I needed a mentor 42
Mi juventud estuvo llena de conferencias de profecía. Escuché todo el tiempo que Jesús vendría pronto. Ese es un mensaje que no escucho mucho hoy en día.
Otra cosa que los predicadores siempre enfatizaban era ser sensibles al Espíritu Santo y Su dirección. Los predicadores dirían que el Señor los impulsó a testificar, predicar, dar, orar o hacer cualquier cosa.
Era joven. Crecí haciendo lo mejor que podía para escuchar al Señor. Creí que Él me hablaba. También pensaba que podría pedirle algo en oración y simplemente esperar que Él lo hiciera. Cualquier cosa de la que hablaron estos hombres de Dios impactó significativamente mi vida.

El pastor seguía hablando. Puse mi rostro entre mis manos, y mis dedos no pudieron contener las lágrimas que salían de mis ojos. Estaba bajo la gran convicción del Señor de dar todo lo que tenía.
Finalmente cedí. Levanté la mano y prometí dar todo lo que teníamos. Me sentí bien por obedecer al Señor. Estaba completamente perdido en cuanto a que haría Él ahora que había regalado todo lo que teníamos.
Llegué a casa esa tarde. Vi a mi mejor amigo que acababa de mudarse a la zona. Él dijo: "No sé qué estaba pasando esta mañana, pero el Espíritu Santo me presionó para que te diera $175".
No podía creerlo. Alabé al Señor y compartí el testimonio de lo que Dios estaba haciendo. Dios me dijo que confiara en Él. Él quería que diera para probarme que Él supliría todas mis necesidades y las necesidades de la nueva iglesia.
Habíamos probado a Dios como directores de jóvenes en esa primera iglesia. Dios había establecido que si dábamos, Él nos daría. Simplemente lo hizo de nuevo.
Sin duda, necesitaba un mentor, pero tenía algo aún más especial. Creí con todo mi corazón que Dios tenía toda la intención de suplir mis necesidades y obrar milagros en mi vida. Compartiré más contigo en los próximos días.
Betty y yo éramos niños. No sabíamos lo que estábamos haciendo, pero sabíamos que amábamos a Dios y solo queríamos ser usados por Él en cualquier forma que Él quisiera.
Dios nos estaba usando. No éramos nosotros. Dios usará a cualquiera de nosotros que crea en Él y lo vea obrar.
Creo que podemos aprender un par de lecciones de este testimonio.
Dios te ama y quiere hacer contigo más de lo que puedas imaginar.
Dios quiere mostrarse fuerte a tu favor si lo amas con todo tu corazón.
Debes mantener un corazón muy tierno y escuchar Su dirección. Él puede decirte que te detengas y testifiques a alguien. Él puede ser que quiere que des. Pero Él nunca pide nada sin añadir Sus bendiciones.
El pueblo de Dios tiene que ser dadores. Saben que no tienen dinero y cosas pero son un canal de lo que Él tiene. Dios da a través de nosotros lo que no nos dará.
No te sientas tonto creyendo en Dios. Los cristianos nuevos generalmente son muy rápidos para creerle a Dios. A los cristianos mayores no les toma mucho tiempo convencer a los cristianos nuevos de que renuncien a Dios, la Palabra, sus promesas, de como nos escucha y contesta oraciones. No renuncies a Dios.
Esté disponible para que Dios lo dirija. Él nunca te guiará de ninguna manera que no sea consistente con las Escrituras. Dar va en contra de la naturaleza humana. Somos guardianes, no dadores.
Incluso si damos dinero, lo hacemos para ganar favores o control, pero si estamos llenos del espíritu, damos sin esperar nada a cambio.
Sea sensible cuando lea la Escritura cuando pasees por Su mundo. Espera que Dios dirija tu camino.
